LYNDY LOU BRIDAL GOES GREEN

19 Apr 2010

Lyndy Lou Bridal in Dromore will be firing up a more sustainable form of heating from now on, thanks to some funding support from Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE).

The Bridalwear boutique has installed a 8.5kW wood pellet stove in the corner of their bridal studio which has been keeping the downstairs studio warm for the brides and staff who spend time there.

Wood pellet systems are very versatile for both homes and businesses and can be used as stand alone room heaters or integrated as part of the central heating system. NIE hopes to encourage this method of heating which has been widely used throughout North America, Canada and Scandinavia for a number of years and which is on the increase in the UK.

Sharon Smith from Lyndy Lou Bridal says, “I am very excited that we have installed this sustainable heating system and appreciate the support from NIE. With the cold weather that we have been having the wood pellet stove has been keeping the boutique nice and warm. Previously we were using under floor heating to heat the rooms but we needed something to give us more heat in the large bridal studio area. Since installing the wood pellet stove the studio has been more comfortable for us to work in and we have noticed a reduction in our energy bills which is great news for us in the current economic climate. The stove was very easy to install and looks great in the boutique. Not only will this form of heating benefit our long term finances but it feels good to be doing our part to help the local environment.”

NIE Energy’s Sarah Beldon visited Lyndy Lou Bridal this week to see the new wood pellet stove in action. Sarah says new technologies, such as stoves and boilers that use some form of biomass such as wood chip or wood pellet will have a positive impact on the local environment, helping reduce the carbon footprint of the business sector. “We are delighted to see local businesses use a range of renewable energy and energy saving technologies. We hope Lyndy Lou’s wood pellet stove will encourage more businesses across Northern Ireland to recognise the economic and environmental benefits of using renewable energy.”

“In 2009 the NIE SMART programme launched a funding initiative for biomass heating, which is open to all businesses across Northern Ireland, and we would encourage everyone to consider wood heating to help reduce energy bills and their carbon footprint.”

This is a limited offer from NIE and is available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. To find out more about how to apply for the scheme go to the NIE Your Energy website www.nie-yourenergy.co.uk . The NIE SMART Programme is funded by Northern Ireland Electricity, the network operator and managed by electricity supplier NIE Energy.
