Omagh Independent Advice Services Switched On
21 Jan 2010
Local energy company, NIE Energy has given a group of vulnerable people from Omagh some free energy saving light bulbs.
Teresa Eannetta from NIE Energy’s Omagh offices recently met with Michael Roddy, Manager of Omagh Independent Advice Centre, to present him with the energy saving bulbs.
Teresa from NIE Energy said: “NIE Energy is delighted to be able to give away some free energy saving light bulbs to the visitors of Omagh Independent Advice Services.
“NIE Energy is keen to help people save energy and one simple way to do this is to replace standard light bulbs with energy saving ones. An energy saving light bulb uses a fifth of the electricity of a standard bulb, so each energy saving bulb when used in a frequently used light, can save about £10 a year off your electricity bill.
“Traditionally, energy saving bulbs were bigger than standard bulbs and either didn’t fit or poked out on top of the lamp shade. That’s not the case anymore. You can now get energy saving bulb equivalents of nearly every shape of bulb you might need and they are nice and bight as well.”
Michael Roddy, Manager of Omagh’s Independent Advice Services added: “Omagh Independent Advice Services tackles social exclusion through offering free confidential, independent advice and help. The centre also provides representation on a daily basis assisting vulnerable people with Social Security benefits, debt, housing, employment and other aspects of Social Welfare law.
“Giving free energy saving light bulbs to the vulnerable members in our community is a fantastic initiative of NIE Energy. It is great to be able to give our visitors an energy saving bulb to help them save money, as every saving counts when you are on a tight budget.”
