Cheaper Electricity

7 Dec 2009

Local Sinn Fein Councillor Patricia Logue recently met with representatives from NIE Energy to discuss help available for NIE Energy customers in the local area.

During the meeting Maureen Delaney, along with Kerstie Forsyth from NIE Energy, went through the ways local people can get cheaper electricity by switching, for free, to a Keypad meter.

NIE Energy Customer Relations Manager, Maureen Delaney, said: “We know household budgets are tight and electricity payments are a struggle for some people, so NIE Energy has a way you can pay as you go along and get discounted electricity.

“You top-up, just like you would do with a pay as you go mobile phone, so you don’t have to worry about unmanageable bills coming in quarterly and there is also a 2.5% discount and no hidden charges.”

Keypad will also help cut electricity waste as it comes with a free, small unit which tells how much electricity is being used in the home at any given time. It can help work out the energy ‘greedy’ appliances.

Sinn Fein Councillor Patricia Logue added:

“I welcome the initiatives being taken by NIE Energy to ensure that people on low incomes can have affordable, manageable electricity. The systems in a pay as you go style will particularly benefit people.

“The installation of a meter will allow families to monitor their usage and therefore make the management of their electricity easier. At times of economic belt tightening people will now have the information as to which appliances use the most supply and act accordingly to ensure that their supply go further.

“People who are experiencing difficulties due to economic difficulties should contact myself or NIE Energy direct, who have assured me they would be willing to provide the best plan available to help rectify their situation.”

You can buy discounted electricity credit for Keypad at any Paypoint or Payzone agent local shops and will soon be able to buy at Post Offices, as well as anytime online at www.nieenergy.co.uk or through NIE Energy’s automated phone service (local rate) 08457 455 455.

To switch to Keypad for free, simply call NIE Energy on 08457 455 455 (Lines open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and on Saturday 9am to 1pm) or visit www.nieenergy.co.uk
