NIE Energy Shines Light on Coleraine

1 Sep 2009

Thousands of free energy saving light bulbs will be given out to Coleraine households over the coming weeks, thanks to local energy company NIE Energy.

Members of the Causeway Coast Vineyard church ‘Shine’ team applied for the free bulbs from NIE Energy to be able to distribute them throughout local estates.

Local girl Lynsey McClean from Coleraine, who works for NIE Energy, joined the ‘Shine’ team during one of the bulb giveaways in the Dhu Varren estate in Portrush.

Lynsey said: “NIE Energy is delighted to be able to give over 2,000 free energy saving bulbs to the residents of Coleraine and Portrush.

“NIE Energy is keen to help people save energy and money. One simple way to do this is to replace standard light bulbs with energy saving ones. An energy saving light bulb uses a fifth of the electricity of a normal bulb, so each bulb, when put in a frequently used light, can save approximately £10 a year off your electricity bill!

“Traditionally, energy saving bulbs were bigger than standard bulbs and either didn’t fit or poked out the top of the lamp shade. That’s not the case anymore. You can now get energy saving bulb equivalents of nearly every shape of bulb you might need, and they are nice and bright as well.”

Sydney Wright from the Vineyard church added: “The Vineyard ‘Shine’ team will be distributing the light bulbs during visits to local estates in the Coleraine area. We are pleased to be able to give the local community free energy saving lights bulbs to help them save some money and energy. “

For anyone who misses out on the bulb giveaway, NIE Energy is currently offering energy saving bulbs at subsidised prices. Details available at www.nieenergy.co.uk
