Energetic Local Bond Girls
24 Aug 2009
Local girls have done everything from an astonishing abseil to lots of other fundraising feats in order to raise money for charity.
Kathryn Kyle from Maghera, Emma Gribben from Armagh and Diane Wilson from Ballymena are three NIE Energy placement students who put a lot of energy into raising the magnificent sum of £4,000 for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC).
Speaking on behalf of the students, Kathryn Kyle from NIE Energy said: “We are delighted to be able to contribute this money to NICFC. Along with the NIE Energy staff, we used our time and energy to raise as much money as possible.
“We all want to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at NIE Energy for all their support and generosity.”
Kathryn, Emma and Diane also held various in-house fundraising events, such as staff lunches, coffee mornings and raffles in aid of the charity.
With another two children diagnosed with cancer every week in Northern Ireland, the number of families NICFC support continues to grow. As NICFC receive less than 1% government funding, they rely on the support and generosity of the local community and businesses within Northern Ireland.
Joanne Steele, Senior and Corporate Fundraiser at NICFC is looking forward to putting the £4,000 raised at NIE Energy to good use. She says the money raised will help offer a lifeline to children and their entire families living with the devastation of childhood cancer.
Joanne from NICFC added: “Without similar support, dedication and enthusiasm from companies like NIE Energy and their staff, we simply could not continue to provide the vital services that families nursing a child with cancer so desperately need, especially in the current economic climate.”
Kathryn, Emma and Diane are looking forward to heading back to university to finish off their degrees. All the students claim that their focus will be on the books, not in recreating any more Bond stunts!
