Newtownabbey Council has a bright idea!
7 Jul 2009
Local energy company, NIE Energy, has provided free energy saving light bulbs to Newtownabbey Borough Council which will be given out at community events.
Claire McCune from NIE Energy said:
“NIE Energy is keen to help people use less electricity and reduce bills. One simple way to do this is to replace standard light bulbs with energy saving ones. An energy saving bulb uses a fifth of the electricity of a normal bulb so each bulb, when put in a frequently used light, can save up to £10 a year off your electricity bill.
“It used to be that energy saving bulbs were bigger than standard bulbs and either didn’t fit or poked out the top of the lamp shade. That’s not the case anymore. You can now get energy saving bulb equivalents of nearly every shape of bulb you might need, and they’re nice and bright as well.
“We’re delighted to be able to give bulbs to Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Environment Services department so people from the town and surrounding area can reap the benefits of using energy saving bulbs in their homes.”
Wendy Brolly from Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Environment Services Department said:
“The light bulbs were given out at Ballyclare Mayfair. Householders were delighted to receive something for free and the bulbs were a great way of letting people know they could save both money and energy by fitting energy saving light bulbs.”
