Free Central Heating for Newry & Mourne

23 Jun 2009

NIE Energy recently met with representatives from the Southern Health and Social Care Trust to iron out the details of help available for NIE Energy customers in the local area.

During the meeting, NIE Energy told the Trust how people in the Newry and Mourne area with Economy 7 could get a brand new central heating system, as well as household insulation, free of charge.

Claire Carson from NIE Energy said the ‘Energy Saver Homes’ scheme gives practical help for older or lower income customers with Economy 7 heating.
Claire said: “If you live in the Newry and Mourne area and are a single person household with an income/pension of less than £18,000 gross, or a couple or single parent family with an income/pension less than £25,000 gross or indeed, are over 70, irrespective of income, you can get a free central heating system to replace Economy 7. “
To keep the heat in come the colder weather, through the NIE Energy scheme, you can also get cavity wall and loft insulation for free, as well as a free hot water tank jacket and some energy saving light bulbs.
The Southern Health and Social Care Trust is working with NIE Energy to offer this help in all three of their localities Newry and Mourne Armagh and Dungannon and Craigavon and Banbridge.
Cathy Murray from the Trust says anyone who thinks they may fit the criteria should apply as soon as possible as other similar schemes have filled very quickly.
“This is an excellent scheme, and having spoken with people that availed of a similar one in the past, they said that their homes were warm and cosy and even reduced their electricity bills.
“As there are limited number of packages available, it is on a first come first served bases,” said Cathy from the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.
For this particular scheme, you need to be a homeowner or private tenant and have no central heating, Economy 7 electric, or solid fuel central heating.
Grants are offered on a first come, first served basis. Information on ‘Energy Saver Homes’ is available from the Southern Health and Social Care Trust by calling 028 3752 0585 or 028 3752 0544
