NIE Energy Generation Contract

  1. Introduction

  2. NIE Energy's offer

  3. Why should you choose the NIE Energy Generation Contract?

  4. Who can sign up for NIE Energy Generation Contract?

  5. NIROCs

NIROCs are available for every MWh (1000kWh) of accredited renewable generation.

Ofgem administer the process of accrediting and issuing NIROCs.

This year the government have introduced double ROCs whereby all electricity generated after the 1st April 2009 by generating stations with a capacity of up to 50kw will now receive 2 NIROCs per MWh.

This means that generators who produce their own renewable energy will now see return on their investment within a shorter period.

From October 2009, NIE Energy pays £41.60 per NIROC therefore double ROCs will equate to £83.20 per MWh.

You can either opt to appoint NIE Energy to act as your Agent and receive payment based on each kWh of generation or carry out the administration yourself.

    1. If you are 50kW or less  - appointing NIE Energy to act as your Agent (Recommended)

NIE Energy can help Renewable Generation customers with the Ofgem process and act as an agent on your behalf in relation to dealings with Ofgem*. Appointing NIE Energy as an Agent on your behalf will allow us to:

      • Assist with your Ofgem application
      • Deal with any queries from Ofgem relating to your application
      • Act in an administrative capacity
      • Pay you based on each kWh of generation

This should make the process more straightforward for you.
*Please note we are unable to act as an Agent if your generating station is over 50kW

If you wish to appoint NIE Energy to act on your behalf as an Agent you will need to complete the agent appointment form and covering letter which can be found in Section 9 - Application Process.

      Application Process:

Along with the agent appointment form and covering letter please provide a schematic diagram of your generation station and we will submit your documentation to Ofgem.

You will need to have a suitable meter installed to measure generation. If you do not have a suitable meter you should contact your installer who can arrange this for you. If you already have a generation meter installed please click here to ensure it is Ofgem approved (PDF document logo PDF document).

      Receiving payment for ROCs

NIE Energy will require you to read this meter on a set date each year (31st March) and submit the reading to NIE Energy. NIE Energy will send all aggregated Agent readings to Ofgem.  NIROCs will be placed directly into an NIE Energy NIROC account. NIE Energy will then arrange a bank transfer for the appropriate amount (Usually July).

This year the government have introduced double ROCs whereby all electricity generated after the 1st April 2009 by generating stations with a capacity of up to 50kw will now receive 2 NIROCs per MWh.

The current Agent ROC price for 09/10 is:

      Double ROCs p/kWh

      8.32p / kWh
